Wisła was occupied by the German army on 2 September, 1939 and along with all the area of Cieszyn Silesia it was incorporated into the III Reich. The town remained under the occupation until the end of April 1945 when it was liberated.

During the was a lot of the prominent inhabitants of the town were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Many of them died there: Michał Cieślar – the director of the primary school in the centre of the town, Jerzy Niemiec – the director of the primary school in Jawornik, father Władysław Pawlas – the president of the Youth Protestant Society or Jan Sztwiertnia – a teacher and a composer.
