The exhibition ‘Grouse in the forests of Silesian Beskid’ is situated in the old Habsburg Hunting Mansion in Lipowa Road.

The exhibition shows a diorama of grouses in their natural environment and a short history of the Habsburg dynasty and their hunting traditions. There is also some information about the Hunting Residence in Zadni Groń – the present residence of the President of Poland, and about huntings organized for the first president of Poland Mr. Ignacy Mościcki.

This is a multimedia exhibition and most information can be found in a special infobox, it is even possible to listen to the grouse mating sounds but there is much more to be seen and experienced there.

A grouse is a very big, colorful bird – the most popular Habsburg’s hunting bird in the XIX century. As a result of the very intensive hunting the population of grouse was on the verge of extinction in the beginning of the XX century. Several years ago the forest superintendence ‘Wisła’ started a very ambitious project of reintroduction of grouse in its natural environment . The first few birds were bred in a special aviary on Mount Wyrchczadka and then they were placed at large in the forests of Mount Barania. Altogether more than 400 birds were reintroduced in this way and the population is still growing.

The exposition is very professionally prepared by the Superintendence ‘Wisła’ and it is really worth visiting.
